This one's from an Ocean City contest — building the Rio Olympic torch. It made the local newspaper, but ask me the funny story behind it.
Most pieces start with an internet search for something current or funny. Then you pack it up and carve it down.
People always ask. The short answer: just sand and water. The long answer is in my instructable below. But here are the basics of what you need.
Wet, packable beach sand.
Lots of it. The wetter the better.
Any size — bigger means bigger sculpture.
Anything with an edge. A fork and spoon work.

There are usually two contests in Ocean City open to kids, teens, adults, and families. Registration is free and starts at 9:00 AM at the 6th Street beach. For more info, call 609-399-6111.
A bigger contest is held in Wildwood Crest with a professional division you have to see in person.
